Book of the Month in April: Being There

Updated: Jul 4, 2022

Why Prioritizing Motherhood in the First Three Years Matters by Erica Komisar, LSCW

Audible book cover with Author name

Welcome to the kick off of book of the month! I'll be giving a quick overview and review of books that I'm currently reading (or listening too.)

Quick Overview

Erica walks us through the importance of being there for you baby, in many different ways. She gently goes through the pros and cons of going back to work, hiring nannies/surrogate caregiver or having Dad being primary care giver. As well as the ramifications of postpartum depression and how best to help your kiddos connect to both mom and the world around them.

Samantha's Take Away

I'll admit that my shackles were up when I bought this book. I had wrongly assumed I was going to be "mom-shammed" for having to return to work so quickly after the birth of both kiddos. But Erica's gentle words talked about the importance of being present with your baby when you're with them, adjusting schedules if it allows but more important: a happy mom is a happy baby. Its given me a new way to look at time with my kids and prioritizing whats important.

Rating: 5/5

I would definitely recommend this book if you're thinking about starting a family, are pregnant, or having little ones already!
